2016-2017 Season Standings

2016-2017 Season Summary: 12 races completed (26 scheduled: 15 cancelled, 1 added, 2 rescheduled , 1 added)

Season standings are maintained based on results of racers over the entire season to award competitors for consistently outstanding results in their class, as well as to award the colored "leader bibs" for the following season to the top men and women. Season standings are computed using the "new World Cup" points system, where points are awarded to the top 30 finishers on a scale of 100, 80, 60, 50, 45, 40, ..., 1.

For 2016-2017, the season standings are based on your best results in 75% of the races (rounded up). All races organized by the Far West Masters on our division schedule will be counted, included any races which are rescheduled from the originally published schedule or added to the schedule during the season in response to changing conditions or special opportunities. See below for details on the season scoring rules.

The 2016-2017 season calendar had 26 scoring races on the schedule; 15 were cancelled; 2 were rescheduled. Your best 9 finishes (75% of 12, rounded up) were counted towards season awards. So if you're competing for a season award, you don't have to go to all the races to have a shot - but the more races you compete in the better your chances of improving your set of scoring finishes!

Season Scoring Rules

For 2016-2017, the season standings are based on your best results in 75% of the races (rounded up). All races organized by the Far West Masters on our division schedule will be counted, including any races which are rescheduled from the originally published schedule or added to the schedule during the season in response to changing conditions or special opportunities.

Racers must have at least 6 starts 4 starts in at least 2 events to qualify for a season award and must be paid members of Far West Masters for the current season. The minimum-starts rule may be waived for competitors 70 and over, however, and at the discretion of the awards committee, it may also be waived on an individual basis to allow for exceptional conditions such as injury or illness.
NOTE: the minimum starts requirement has been reduced for the 2016-2017 season in recognition of the large number of race cancellations that occurred during this record-breaking snow season. Our season schedule was planned with 26 races over 7 events; by the time we came through weeks of #JanuBuried storms that kept right on rolling into the Sierras through February and into March, we ultimately were able to complete 12 races at 5 events. You were there for the Winter of 2017!!
