NCAA / RMISA Nevada Invitational Returns to Mt. Rose After 16-Year Hiatus
Far West Masters racers, mark your calendars for late January! The University of Nevada-Reno Wolfpack will host the RMISA Nevada Invitational at Mt. Rose—the first time Nevada has hosted a collegiate race in 15 years and the first Nevada Invitational since 2010.

Far West Masters website updates
The website committee of Melissa, Damian, Hamish, and Deb has been hard at work this fall on creating a new, updated website for Far West Masters ski racing.
Our hope with this site is that it makes it easier for us to post new content, get messages out to our membership, and attract new members.
Preseason conditioning
With (hopefully 🤞) six weeks until the start of the ski season, we should all be well into our final conditioning prep to be strong and ready to ski.
If you’re not, it’s not too late! Here are some ideas from Coach Alby Dean of the Palisades Tahoe Masters Program to get you moving and ready for the upcoming season. As always, these are only recommendations and you should consult with a medical professional before embarking on any new conditioning program to make sure it’s right for you.

Damian, our Recuriting Chair, has put together a survey to help us get a better idea of what you’re looking for from Far West Masters. This will help the board understand the best ways to make sure you, our membership, are happy with the organization. It will also hopefully help us with recruiting new racers.
Dan Simmons: Far West Stanley Walton Award for Outstanding Official
In May, 2025, Far West Masters Official Dan Simmons was awarded the Far West Stanley Walton Award for Outstanding Official. This award is given by Far West Skiing to the official who has provided exceptional service to Far West skiing throughout the ski season.
2024-2025 end of season awards
Each year at the Far West Masters season awards banquet we make several special awards. The Rookie of the Year award recognizes racers who are new to our masters racing program and who demonstrate enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The Most-Improved Racer award recognizes racers who have been competing and who have demonstrated significant improvement in their racing. The Cantanho "Spirit of Masters" award honors a competitor who exemplifies participation with cheerfulness and joy, as well as contributions to our program to encourage others to share the enjoyment of masters racing. And new in 2019 is the President's Award, a special recognition award selected by the President of Far West Masters.
