Dan Simmons: Far West Stanley Walton Award for Outstanding Official

In May, 2025, Far West Masters Official Dan Simmons was awarded the Far West Stanley Walton Award for Outstanding Official. This award is given by Far West Skiing to the official who has provided exceptional service to Far West skiing throughout the ski season.

In addition to his work as an official for Far West Masters, Dan officiates many races for the youth divisions. Last Season, Dan was TD at the following races:

December 6 and 7: Masters GS at Mammoth
December 14-15, Open slalom at Sugar Bowl
January 4 and 5, U10/U12 Slalom at Bear Valley
(It’s really fun to watch the little ones race. Their skill levels are amazing.)
December 28, 29 and 30: Diamond Peak U12 Championship.

Dan says:
The best part of all of this is getting to work with and know the race departments at various areas and the people who run Far West Skiing. I missed working at Alpine and Palisades last year (except for forerunning a FIS slalom at Palisades), but I’ve become particularly connected to the Palisades/Alpine race crews who I often encounter when training at Palisades. They are all good people highly dedicated to our sport.

In addition, in the spring of 2025 Dan was awarded the Buck Thys award by the coaches of the Palisades Masters Program.
