Race Registration

Race entries for Far West Masters events are submitted through our online registration system on masters.AdminSkiRacing.com. Deadlines and fees for all race events are posted here on our farwestmasters.org web site on the Season Schedule page as well as on the registration site.

If you have questions or need assistance, contact our volunteers who provide registration support at raceadmin@farwestmasters.org.

Race registration opens the fall, usually by late 0ctober or early November. Here are the key elements of the registration process, which is explained in detail below:

  • you must have a current US Alpine Master membership to race - see the How to Join page for details

  • a FIS-certified race helmet is required - see the Race Rules page for details

  • early registration deadline - usually midnight Sunday night prior to the start of the event. Race entry fee increases by $5 after the early registration deadline

  • entry deadline - usually 1-2 days prior to the first race day - online registration is closed at 7pm PT on the entry deadline date. Organizers may but not required to accept late entries after the entry deadline.

  • cancellation deadline - set to be the same time as the entry deadline. You may cancel an entry anytime up until the cancellation deadline without penalty (no fees will be charged).

  • All entries received as the entry/cancellation deadline will be charged the race entry fee. This includes DNS (no-show competitors). Refunds may be granted at the discretion of the organizer for injury or emergency - competitor is responsible for providing withdrawal notification before the race if they wish to request a refund.

  • start list closed - organizer closes the start list - usually at noon the day before the race. You must be on the start list to compete in the race. Open class participation must be elected by close of start list. Day-of-race entries are generally cannot be accepted.

You can cancel your entry without fees charged any time up until the cancellation deadline, so there is no penalty for signing up early!

Race Communication

Race information about an event is communicated in several ways to try to provide the best possible information to our racers.

  • before the race - race information updates are posted on the Schedule page of the web site and on the registration system masters.AdminSkiRacing.com. You may receive updates from announcements sent out on the news mailing list or messages sent directly to registered competitors from the registration site. You may also be contacted directly via email, phone, or text by the Far West Master volunteers who provide registration support. Our goal is to help everyone get registered and out on the race hill as smoothly as possible!

  • at close of registration - an information message is always sent out after registration is closed with details on the event (e.g. whether/where/when to check in, program schedule, race venue) and list of registered competitors for the event. Event information messages are sent out to registered competitors from our racenews mailing list (look for sender raceadmin@farwestmasters.org) as well as from the registration system masters.AdminSkiRacing.com. We also encourage all racers to opt-in to our text notification system, as text messages on your phone are the best way for many of us to receive race news. See the Communication page for instructions on how to register for FWM text messages.

  • for each event there will information provided on where to look for electronic communications on the race program and schedule updates. Most of our organizers in Far West post race documents along with race times and results on live-timing.com.

Exceptional Conditions

The entry/cancellation deadline is set to allow the race organizer at least one working day before the start of the event to complete final preparations, such as setting up computer files for the race timing system and verifying that all competitors have a valid US masters membership to compete in the event.

In some cases the registration deadlines need to be set at a different date or time than the “usual” deadlines described here. Always check the published deadlines for each event posted on the Schedule page or the online registration system masters.AdminSkiRacing.com.

No entry fees are charged if a race must be cancelled.

Occasionally mistakes are made in processing entry fee payments. If you believe you have been incorrectly charged a race entry fee, contact the race organizer to request a correction. If you are unsatisfied with the resolution, please bring the issue to the attention of the Far West Masters board and the race registration team at raceadmin@farwestmasters.org so we can assist.

Membership and Equipment

You must have a US Ski & Snowboard Alpine Masters membership for the current season or purchase a short-term US alpine master membership on a per-day basis to compete – this is essential for our event insurance coverage. You must provide proof of primary medical insurance coverage to obtain your US membership.

Equipment regulations are generally flexible for masters competitors, although equipment designed for the specific discipline is recommended.

Helmets certified for ski racing are REQUIRED for all disciplines and must cover the head and ears. Soft ear protection is only permitted for helmets used in SL.

Helmets with spoilers or edges that stick out, such as helmet cams, are not permitted. Protective features integral to the discipline being contested, such as chin guards on SL helmets, are permitted.

FIS-certified race helmets for GS, SG and DH must have a conformity label affixed by the manufacturer in a non-removable way, at the back of the helmet, in a position where it is not be covered by the goggle strap. The conformity label must contain the text “Conform to FIS Specifications RH 2013”.
