We, the Far West Masters, embrace ski racing as a lifelong sport. Our mission is to provide skiers of all levels with an opportunity to compete in quality, challenging, and fun alpine ski racing events.

Mammoth Super G races January 23-24
Two days of speed racing at Mammoth Mountain on Friday-Saturday, January 23-24, with two SG races each day. Early registration deadline is 7pm Sunday, January 18. Final registration deadline is 7pm Tuesday, January 20. Entry fee is $55 per race.

Please note: The Mammoth Super-G races do not count toward the National Speed Series. Earlier communication made an incorrect statement about the Mammoth Super-G races. However, both the Northstar Super-G races February 27 will count toward the National Speed Series. The DH and SG races at the National Championships at Mammoth in late March also count toward the National Speed Series.
Mammoth Super G training January 22
Thursday, January 22 from 12:00pm - 2:30pm
Mammoth is offering an SG training session on Thursday 1/22, providing all racers competing in the Friday–Saturday January 23–24 SG races an opportunity for speed training on the race venue. Cost is $30; check in and pay at the Mammoth Race Department office on Thursday morning.
The SG race venue is World Cup into Terrie's. Start is at "air jump" at the base of Cornice Bowl. Access via Broadway Express (Ch. 1) from Main Lodge and Face Lift Express (Ch. 3); traverse on the backside of Ch. 3 to the start. Alternate access: gondola or Ch. 23 to the top, ski Cornice Bowl down to the start.

Schedule for Thursday, January 22
Time: Noon–2:30pm
Meet the coaches promptly at noon at the start of the SG course, ready for inspection and training.
Inspection: 30 minutes (one look)
Equipment: FIS certified race helmet required ("RH 2013" FIS cert sticker). SG skis encouraged; GS skis allowed; no SL skis.
All race and speed venue rules will be strictly enforced. This is for the safety of competitors and crew. Absolutely no access or movement in the race venue without approval by the coaches.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership renewal notices for the 2025 season were sent to all current competitors in July. New and renewing racers can obtain their 2025 masters license through the Online Registration service on usskiandsnowboard.org. 2026 Regional and National Races
The Western Region championship/FIS Masters Cup races will be held at Beaver Creek CO on Feb. 6-8. Beaver Creek has hosted this event several times in recent years and they have a fun race hill and outstanding crew. Get more info on the US Ski & Snowboard Masters page.
Masters Nationals at Mammoth in March
A highlight the season will be the 2026 Masters National Championships hosted in our own Far West division at Mammoth Mountain from Mar. 22 - 28. Mammoth is hosting a 4-event national championship with DH, SG, GS, and SL. More details to come later this fall. More info on the US Ski & Snowboard Masters page.

2026 season race schedule
The registration link will be added to the list below as soon as registration is open for each race.
The FIS Masters Cup races at Beaver Creek, CO on Feb. 6-8 are also the Western Region Championships. Competitors age 30+ must have a current FIS Masters license; competitors 29 and under are eligible only for US masters awards. All competitors must have a current US Masters membership.
Race day checkin is always required!
You must check in on race day to confirm your participation and ensure you receive any updates about the event program.

Helmets are required for all disciplines!
FIS-certified race helmet is REQUIRED for GS, SG, and DH
Flouro wax is banned from all completion
Competitors must be a current member of US Ski and Snowboard and Far West Masters.
New racers are welcome and may purchase a short-term US Ski and Snowboard membership license per race day.
Please remember that weather and/or snow conditions may cause a change in the schedule!

Waiting for the season to start gave me time to look back through my training notes. I've kept notes on my racing off and on for years, but last season I wrote down what I worked on almost every training day. Reading through them reminded me of things that clicked, like finally understanding level shoulders because of a drill Coach Steve did with bamboo poles, and the afternoon slalom sessions that helped me start to really feel my line and body position.
