Far West Masters Board Elections: Your Chance to Get Involved
Far West Masters is a volunteer-run organization, and every year we rely on members who are willing to step up and help keep things running. Board elections take place at our annual membership meeting, and nominations are now open.
What's Up for Election?
All current officers are willing to continue serving, but per our bylaws, the following Vice Chair positions are open for nomination if you or someone you know is interested in running:
Vice Chair of Membership – Mary Feddis (stepping down)
Vice Chair of Communications – Melissa House
Vice Chair of Recruitment and Marketing – Damian Palfini
Vice Chair of Race Scheduling – Mike Braun
Vice Chair of Officials – Mark Mirviss
Vice Chair of Information and Technology – Deb Lewis
The Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary positions are not up for election this year.
We Need a New Vice Chair of Membership
After 10 years of dedicated service to Far West Masters, Mary Feddis is stepping down as Vice Chair of Membership. Mary has been a cornerstone of our organization, keeping our member data in order, helping new racers get started, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes on race weekends. Thank you, Mary, for everything you've given to FWM!
That means we are actively looking for our next Membership Director. We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, has a knack for organization, and wants to play a key role in keeping our racing community running smoothly.
The Membership Director is the link between our racers and our race operations. You'll be the go-to person for members: answering questions, helping new racers get started, and making sure everyone is ready to go on race day. The role combines people skills with data management, such as verifying memberships, tracking liability waivers, assigning and managing race bibs, and coordinating with our scoring director and race administrators to ensure seamless race operations.
What we're looking for:
Strong communication skills across generations: you'll work with racers ranging from their 20s to their 90s, from first-timers to longtime members
Comfort working with data systems and attention to detail
A customer service mindset and patience for questions (lots of questions!)
Availability during race season (fall through spring), with the heaviest commitment in the days before each race weekend
How to Nominate
Nominations should be submitted to the Division Chair, Rees Palermo, by March 5th. Any member in good standing can nominate a candidate, and additional nominations can be made from the floor at the annual meeting. Candidates must be current FWM members in good standing and willing to accept the responsibilities of the role.
Voting
Voting on any chair positions with multiple candidates and approval of positions with single candidates will take place at the annual membership meeting on Saturday, March 7th at the party following the Palisades race. In the event of weather-related changes, the backup date is the party after the Diamond Peak race on March 14th at the party at Alibi Ale. Stay tuned for announcements!
