Scholarship program updates
The Far West Masters Scholarship Program awarded college scholarships to several athletes. Here are update from two of those recipients, Evi Barber, who will be attending the University of Denver as a Freshman, and Regan Clute, who will be attending Bates College as a Freshman and continuing her ski racing at this D1 school.
2018 was the 10th and final year of the Jeff Wattenmaker Scholarship program. Jeff initiated his namesake scholarship prior to his death from melanoma, arranging to donate funds to expand the Far West Masters Scholarship program by making funding available for college education expenses to recipients of his scholarship. His funding supported 13 of our Far West student athletes to attend college in the amount of $10,000 per athlete.
Given the success of the Wattenmaker Scholarship program, the Far West Masters have since offered an annual Far West Masters College Scholarship through our organization. Donations to the program can be directed towards the goal of keeping this college scholarship going. This has been extremely successful resulting in College Scholarship awards ranging from $10,000 to $80,000 to athletes that have been in the program to finance their college education. Athletes who receive this scholarship do not have to participate in College ski racing. The Scholarship is based on a combination of citizenship, exemplary work ethic, academic scholarship and financial need.
