Summer Board Meeting
July 10, 2004
A board meeting was held Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the home of Barbara and Eddie Mozen.
President Don Smith called the meeting to order at 9:25 A.M.
Board members present: Don Smith, Mark Smallhouse, Linda Crowell, Rees Palermo, and Elizabeth Kennedy. Past member Mark Mirviss present to present his final budget report. Elizabeth will be assuming the duties of writing the newsletter, previously held by Sally Brew.
Heidi Littenberg and Mark Antis were absent.
Interested members attending: Karl Brown, Eddie Mozen and Doug Fulton.
A quorum of 5 board members was present; therefore official business was conducted.
Old Business: Minutes from the July 19, 2003, October 11, 2003 and April 9, 2003 were read and approved.
Election results were validated. Linda Crowell, secretary and Don Smith, president were elected for another 2 year term. Mark Smallhouse was elected treasurer.
Race Issues:
Race Schedule: A tentative 2004-2005 race schedule was presented by Rees Palermo (See attached). The season awards banquet will again be in the Tahoe area this year because of scheduling conflicts with Mammoth Mt. at the end of the year.
Equipment Regulations Update: There will be no new limitations or changes for Far West Masters level this coming year.
Sun Valley World Criterium – FIS rules regarding ski length and radius will be in effect except for men over 70 and women over 60. They will have no restrictions. SuperG length for all racers will be the same as GS.
Western Regionals at Mammoth will be scored as Far West Points for season awards. Older men’s classes (60 & 70) will not score for top bibs. All others will.
Starts per race were down for last year over previous years.
At the Masters National Meeting, it was decided to lower the minimum age for Masters racers from 21 to 18.
Certification /Promotion of Officials: An Officials Meeting will be held October 9, 2004 at Rees Palermo’s home is Verdi, NV. A referee exam will be available.
Discussion of sponsors, new bibs for 2005-06 season. Don Smith will talk to Herb at Granite Chief, Eddie Mozen will talk to Joe Lausmann, Jr. and Rees Palermo will talk to Dave Garner at Reno Mt. Sports.
Continued discussion regarding having gatekeepers for every race and having good course maintenance. Everyone concurs that we need course maintenance should be the priority. TD’s at each race will talk with area to determine need.
Season Awards Banquet: Date not yet determined. Rees is still working on a final weekend date for races.
Awards Parties after races should be limited to spending $300 for food if possible.
MEMBERSHIP: See attached report on agenda.
BUDGET: See attached report from Mark Mirviss.
NEWSLETTER: Will be printed Oct 04, Jan, March, April 05. We will continue to include race results.
